iHeadache - Headache & Migraine Diary App Reviews

Fabulous

This program is fantastic! My neurologist was always after me to keep a headache journal, and I never did because he wanted so much detail, but this program covers most of it. I would love a few minor changes. Now you enter Initial Severity and Maximum Severity, and only have the three options. My neurologist would like me to report my pain severity on a scale of 1 to 10, and to keep track of the changes in severity as time passes throughout the day. It would be nice if the severity was more like the Medications tab, so that you could enter it throughout the day and have the program note the time, and if you could enter it on a numeric scale. As it stands, I have to type this manually in Notes, which still gets the job done. I would also like to be able to input an actual end time for the reported headache, instead of being limited to "more than 4 hours." This is a must have for headache sufferers!

Excellent Tracking System

Notes option has been added. Also I emailed the developer with a suggestion and the response was immediate. Very helpful people to deal with. I agree with the reviewer who stated they would like to see a 1 - 10 rating scale. That is how I categorize my headaches in the notes portion.

Big Performance Improvement

I was a big fan of this App before, but it has been improved. The performance improvements that have been made in this latest update (v 1.40) are great. I found it slow and frustrating when trying to access the headache Log before. The App is now much quicker and more responsive to user inputs. Definitely a must have App for migraine sufferers looking to help their physician in helping them. As far as further improvements/ changes I would like to see: - It would be nice to track work days missed due to headache. This could perhaps be accomplished with the addition of a simple check box on the day of the headache entry. - A graphical display of sorts would be sweet. Havent put thought into exactly how it could be depicted, but some sort of overlapping graph displaying when a user is suffering with headache and when abortive medications are taken. This may help the user and their physician in identifying medication over-usage/ rebound headache. Thanks for your efforts in keeping this App up to date and full functioning. I wouldnt want to be without it.

Thank you

I also appreciate the reviews, I have been wanting a graph function as well, not all Doctors are willing to read the log and I find trying to sort through the dates, severity and meds a lot. My migraines generally span three days, the current dates dont allow fir this to be recorded.

Pretty good

Good application. Needs more general pain meds in its medication database since a lot of them are used for treatment. It also needs way more options for duration. Eg the longest option is "over 4 hours". Most of us have headaches that last multiple days.

Really Useful

I have found the most help in treating migraine by looking for patterns. I like how this app tells you if you have a tension headache or migraine. Extremely helpful to track triggers. Unfortunately, my Neurologist isnt up to this technical speed yet. I think I paid 9.99 for it. Bummer.

Would have been 5 stars except...

UPDATE: (Oct1/11) I am "downgrading" my happiness with this app. As of the last update, none of the suggestions that I, or anyone else on here, have been taken into account. The only change was one that was unnecessary and now makes the reports more confusing! Changing the way the date is inputted, yet not changing the amount of time a migraine is - how does that help?? No location added, no pain scale change, no length change... nothing useful in the update. Bad job developers! There are only a few things that would make this the PERFECT app for anyone who suffers from migraines: 1) Like other reviewers before me, I would like a 1 to 10 pain scale (with the time like the medications would be awesome!), as well as a "Location" section. 2) The addition of a non-medication section. Some of us like to use other means to try and relieve our migraines before turning to medications. Right now, I have things like "ice" and "massage" listed under the Medications section, which works okay, but doesnt read well in the reports. 3). The addition of a checkbox or something similar where women can track the dates of their periods and have this incorporated into the Reports. Some of my migraines are triggered by the ebb and flow of hormones and it would be great to be able to pinpoint exactly what days of the month to anticipate, and possibly prevent, a migraine. 4) Graphs! This is available in another migraine diary app I tried previously. It would be fantastic to be able to get a graph of the data produced in the reports! Other than these few things - this is the BEST app for migraineurs out there! I love the details collected, the ability to customize most categories, and the presentation of the reports is very clear and concise! Thank you to the developers!! This is one of my "must-haves" and will continue to be an important tool in managing my health!!

Great app if youre dealing with a headache disorder

Ive been using this app, and earlier versions, to log my headaches as part of the treatment plan Im working. The classification of headaches, medication logging, and reporting features are really helpful when discussing the condition with my Doctor. The new version has fixed some bugs that appeared when iOS 8 was released, and given a fresher look to the UI. I can definitely recommend this app!

Good App

A must have for those who suffer regularly of this desease. Some improvements needed to have a 5 star rate.

Great update

Showed this to my MD at last visit & she said it was very helpful, but I should also track triggers. Now with the latest update I can do that. Love the notes section also.

Love the update!

I liked the app before but now it is perfect. My doctor loves the reports and now he is even telling his patients to get it. The triggers and notes work great. Thanks for making this app.

Great App - Great Additions

Loved the app and the new update makes tracking the migraines even better. Being able to note the possible triggers and then add my own notes for each headache is a big plus. Would still like to see a 1-10 rating scale but definitely a big step in the right direction. Definitely worth the $$.

Love it!

Great app! Helps me keep track of my headaches and the triggers that were added helps too! Thanks :)

Really appreciate your iHeadache app.

Really appreciate your iHeadache app. It is already helping me to identify the headache types Im having. But about the text=based reporting, Im sure a physician will find it useful, but I would really like some type of graphical reporting. Such as, a calendar view to see at a glance the frequency of headaches as well as a configurable bar chart showing frequency and options of duration/intensity/.ect. Email response from the developer about my concerns was quick and supportive.

A couple of suggestions

Good app. Im using it. But the toggle colors leave me constantly trying to figure out which answer Im giving. It would be nice if there was more contrast so it will be obvious what I have selected. The other suggestion is to reword the disability questions so we dont have to figure out double negatives. Rather than "unable to attend work... Yes or no," which leaves me unsure how to answer, say "did you miss work...yes or no." It may seem minor but little tweaks like this will keep me loyal to an app.

Excellent app

This is a fantastic headache tracker, very useful for tracking headaches on the fly as they occur. I like the new Notes and Triggers sections and the application as a whole is quite thorough. Before I used to just scribble shorthand notes in my day planner. One thing Id like to see is a graphing capability in the Reports section so I can visually track my pain med usage.

Great!

Great app! Would suggest adding location of headache/migraine pain, otherwise everything I need!! 

Worth the money

As a headache sufferer, I am the WORST at tracking my headaches. I find that I never have my calendar with me, and I forget specifics when I get back to my desk/car etc. This app is awesome, and makes tracking your migraines so easy. I have the best data on my headaches that Ive had in 15 years. As apps go, this one is pricey (I see its on sale right now), but its worth every penny. This is my favorite thing on my phone. There are other things that it could include (pain meter, type of pain etc.), but I think in regards to what else is available, this is wonderful.

Would love better summary view

As Im using this app Im finding that its hard for me to view the data holistically. My goal is to spot patterns in my headaches so I can determine what my triggers could be, but it will be impossible to flip through all the entries one by one to figure out the trend, and its hard to digest the information created by the Report function. Ideally, Id be able to sort by a trigger and see the number of incidences tagged with that trigger over a chosen period—IN A GRAPH. Or Id see the headache incidences plotted on a line graph over time, so I can see whether theres a cyclical nature to them, whether they cluster around certain dates (then I can go into my personal calendar to compare the activities I did around those dates). Seems like, in short, a combined calendar/graphing function would be immensely helpful. If this could be incorporate into a future update I would be so grateful...and hopefully closer to avoiding my headaches.

Careful not to lose your data

Overall this has been a very convenient app, and has made a big difference for me in the consistency with which I record headach data. I would definately recommend it to anyone with chronic headaches. My only caveat is to be careful not to lose your data! The app started crashing on my phone after they had made some big overhauls ( not sure if the problem was the app or the phone). I then lost six months of data that I had meticulosly entered. I was only able to recover some of the data because I happened to have a back up of my phone on my computer from a month ago. Point being - you cant just count on the data being automatically backed up to iTunes. Its probably best to email it to yourself periodically. Learn from my mistakes! Oh, and I like some of their recent upgrades. I just wish that the triggers were more versatile - ie that you could add your own in the same way that you can add your own medications. Their lost definitely isnt exhaustive, and migraines are so particular to individuals and poorly understood that ot makes sense to allow people to track their own hypotheses.
